Ethan was all smiles when we met to talk about his experience as HomeCare+ Support Worker. Studying a Bachelor Philosophy in Politics and Economics and enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing, Ethan says the balance with study works well.
He does overnight shifts and is still able to commit to full time study. Being a Support Worker is a natural progression to study nursing for Ethan.
He expected the job would entail activities of daily living like personal care and medication, taking people out to go shopping or recreational activities. What he did not expect were the lasting connections he has made with clients.
“It’s a great privilege to be able to work with my clients. My favourite memories would be the chats, sometimes turning into healthy debates!
Starting as a Support Worker at age 20, the training comprehensively prepared me and it meant that the job is so fulfilling. The HomeCare+ Learning & Development team are world class and the Registered Nurses are always a pleasure to learn from. They are so reassuring and made me feel supported.
I would say the top three things people should know about becoming a Support Worker are the sense of purpose, the continual progress and up-skilling and the salary sacrifice benefits are rewarding."
We always welcome feedback, compliments and complaints.
