Colleen was a nurse for over 40 years, so when she started to suffer back pain, there were plenty of things she could attribute it to. After a fall in 2020, she was eventually diagnosed with Cauda Equina and had two surgeries on her spine.
Subsequent rehab at Hampstead brought PQSA Peer Support Advocate Vicky to meet Colleen. She recommended that Colleen take advantage of the $4,000 grant offered to people over the age of 65 with a spinal cord injury. PQSA has identified this group for funding as they do not receive NDIS support.
Colleen, who lives independently at home nominated to use the funds for an electric queen size bed. Previously, there were days where it could be 2 or 3 hours until she was able to get out of bed.
“With the new bed, I’m able to rise when I choose to start my day.“ She very much appreciates the grant, which has covered the costs and allows her to be independent in her daily routine.
We always welcome feedback, compliments and complaints.
