A mixed-methods study of the psychological and emotional experiences of people with spinal cord damage

Dr. Peter New and colleagues from Caulfield Hospital and Monash University in Melbourne are conducting a world first study into the psychological and emotional issues facing people with spinal cord damage from any cause, including trauma, diseases and medical or surgical problems. In particular, we are interested in how people with spinal cord damage cope and the influence of different factors on coping after spinal cord damage. We hope to use this information to develop strategies to help people with spinal cord damage.

There are two separate parts to the study. Adults over 18 years can take part in one or both parts of the study.

  • One part of the study involves a questionnaire.

No identifying personal details need to be provided and it takes about 60-90 minutes. You don’t have to complete it all at once, as long as you complete it within 1 week of starting it. Participants will be offered a $20 shopping voucher for completing the questionnaire.

The other part of the study involves an interview with a researcher. The interview can be conducted either face to face when and where it suits you or over the phone.
